Jade, Leopard Skin, ?Jasper & Silver Knife « Thread Started on Mar 19, 2009, 11:58am »
Hi, everyone!
Here's the knife I made during the last two weeks, from start to finish. For the blade I used a jade slab from a boulder that I got from Tony - Nephrite. For the handle I used two different materials: a leopard skin jasper and a cool jasper which is unknown to me. I have it from Keith - Kap, he gave it to me in the Christmas exchange pack. The pattern of that jade slab was too cool to cut, yet too big for any cab so I am glad that I was able to use it entirely in this handle.
Initially I inserted a simple wire into a smaller groove but, while leveling that wire to the level of the blade, the wire went out of the resin and I had to start it again: I enlarged the groove and inserted the twisted wire you see, thinking that the grip between the wire and the epoxy will be better.
And it's ready!
Thank you all for looking, and special thanks to Tony - nephrite for the jade boulder and for posting your knives which inspired me

I agree with the others Adrian, you have some special skills. This knife I awesome, and skillfully made. Your wire groove is a excellent finishing touch. As a person that works jade I can tell you know what you are doing working this material. Its a pretty tough thing to do for the first time. You obviously have mastered it pretty fast. Look forward to seeing your next project.

Thank you again!
Ken, this is my first knife made entirely of stone, too. Lori, the wire is only twisted not hammered. I inserted it into the groove which was previously filled with epoxy and after the epoxy was hardened I grinded the excess wires to level the metal to the stone (make it flush). Tony, thank you for the kind words. Coming from a master jade crafter like you that really means a lot to me.
Hi Adrian, Great job on the jade knife with silver wire. As some one who has mainly only tumbled, your skills are greatly admired. Keep on thinking out of the box!
