What is Cabbing?

Sorry, I read previous post and still didn't understand what the terms cabbing, cabs, cabachon means.

I am very new to this hobby, as I bought my daugher a cheap little tumbler for Christmas and seem to have become interested in rocks myself. I have more questions, but will make them separate posts as to keep them all simple.

Cabbing, cabochons, cabs, are when you cut a slab of rock, then cut smaller pieces from the slabs and shape them for use as jewelry, or any type of setting. Technically, cabochons are round or oval shaped and ground with a dome on them.

then there is cabojohns which is what sands does with his, and what I plan to do with mine till I get the dome part down

LOL rockds, Just call them freeform cabs, nobody can argue that. Are you using a dob stick?

Yeah, I have a lot of freeforms that were intended to be domed!

I haven't used a dop stick yet, (as my fingers are well aware of) I am still looking for the elusive "cab-grabber", heck I may just have to make my own cab-grabber.
