I have a chance at 2 24" rociprolaps for the price of half of one new. They are in very good condition.
Or should I go with a bull wheel which new from highland park would be about 200.00 less than the 2 rociprolaps?
Never used anything but a small vibe and a dry sander so let me know your thoughts please!

I have a Richardson's machine as well. Just a huge backlog of 5+ years of cutting everything from eggs to agate to jasper. Some pieces large and some small.

For eggs and most small pieces I go right to a bull wheel after getting the oil out. I have 36 inch rotating lap that I use on larger pieces to get the saw marks out. I have a small rociprolaaps some where buried in my shop that I was not happy with at all. You can do a lot of work with a bull wheel a lot faster, IMHO, than with a vibrating lap. YOu do need to wear a dust mask if you are sanding dry like I do. Can get dusty and you do not want to inhale that. I bull wheel with 100 grit belts, then 220 and sometimes 400 before I put them on the 24 inch rotating polisher.

For the rotary lap did you go with a tom yard machine or something else? I'll try calling him again. Been trying a few weeks and no go. I originally wanted to get the "ultimate grinder", but after weeks of no answer I started giving up on that option.

Probably put me at 2700 for it all. They come with speed controllers as well.

Took the plunge on the rociprolaps. Happy birthday to me haha Let us know how it works for you! Update on this. I love these machines. Takes a bit to get the feel for em but they work great. I go from 220 to 600 then polish. 3 hours for each step usually. I was able to find a rocks bullwheel for 300 bucks a few weeks back, guy hated it so I asked how much and he said 300. Drove 2 hours for it, gave me a bunch of rocks and sanding pads.

One thing I need to do now is find a large enough saw here in WA or in OR to cut my big logs and moss agates. Need a 36in saw for them and I only have a 24.

Just send me the logs and I will take good care of them! There was drag saw for sale in Astoria./Tillamook a while back.

I have one of those Richardsons high speed sanders. Not a fan. Also dangerous as all hell. Definitely use thick gloves when using and eye protection. I wouldn’t be surprised if people have severely hurt themselves on those things.

I got one but rarely use it!
