Now you have me wanting to build a lightbox. I have been thinking about doing this for a while. I hope all is well down I-35..... All well here buddy. Yeah, they are easy to build looking at it. I just wasn’t sure what was involved so for 20 bucks I went the lazy route. I need to spend more time practicing mainly. Hope y’all had a merry Christmas!

This is too small batches combined that I’ve been working on for the last several months or so. It’s a combination of rocks that I have found and purchased. Figure I’d practice a little bit more with the light box. The irritating thing about these cheap light boxes is the ring of individual LEDs are so strong they caused unwanted reflection. I have a couple of sheets of my kids drawing paper in front of the lights and there is still too much glare.

Awesome pics! Look especially cool with the grey/black background.

Nice rocks!
Individual led reflections can look good sometimes; really emphasizing the shine. Diffusing light can make photos look better, but it can also greatly increase glare on shiny items (especially in a light box).

I’ll be practicing, trying different things and work on figuring out how to set up better back grounds. When weather improves I’ll do some outside practicing.

Hey vegasjames , a couple of these rocks were in the batch I bought from you. Could you please tell me what they are? I cannot remember and absolutely love how this one turned out…

Green jasper from the Goldfield District, Nevada. Thank you very much, sir! It is found in both light green and dark green. Sometimes it still has some opal mixed with it as it has not fully converted. And pure common opal is also found in the area is the same exact area, but has a much lower density.

The light rings are definitely much less visible now. I'm having a hard time finding them. Before they just leapt out at you.

I’m gonna figure out a better solution though. Like a pillowcase. A light colored pillowcase that I’ll cut up. A light colored pillowcase that my wife won’t notice is missing that I’ll cut up. I’ll start with one layer and hide the rest.
