Found near Challis ID, incredible under/over plumage but I'm skeptical as to how well it would cab due to horizontal fractures.. Thanks for looking!

Pretty funky looking stuff. I'm wondering, if you have another piece, if you slabbed it the opposite way would it be more stable ?

Itโs a seam agate. So it more than likely pushed up from under the ground somewhere. Which means there is more than likely more

I have never seen anything even close to that around Challis.

Thanks all! This was a surprise I found while looking for blue agate nodules, it had a tiiny window so I was fortunate to notice it in the first place. Can't wait to get back up there... so much more terrain to cover. Pat- they're just slabs of plume agate, pretty gnarly for sure.. Patty- I tried cabbing a small end-piece but it's just fractured all around.. was gonna post a picture of it but I can't photograph very well:) Realrockhound- good call, can't wait to get back there and find the lode. We stopped at the first hill we came to, and they ran as far as the eye could see.. Mark K- same- I'd heard of Challis plume agate but this is very different. Rockbrain- I recently jumped down the rabbit hole (warren) on stabilizing, hopefully I can find a technique that works.. Fingers crossed!

Have you been to the fluorite spot that they reclaimed with extreme prejudice?

There was a spot that had a fluorite mine and the forest service came in and destroyed everything claiming it was for safety. Then they covered a deposit that was not unsafe at all with riprap and then dumped tons of dirt over it so no one could work the safe deposit. They did it just to be assholes. The mine was like a fairy land with the huge veins of material going off into the walls and would light up like magic when you put a really strong light to it.

Now you got me pissed off with the pine pigs more than usual.
