HankRocks Thanks Henry. This is the first comment really focused just on the processing of rocks. I can see incorporating this, but just on a smaller scale.👍

I really enjoyed reading through this thread! Years ago, I started writing the name and provenance of the material with pencil on all slabs and some rough. Every now and then one surprises me and I learn the rock type again ;-) I keep my rough in 5 gallon buckets and label the buckets with flagging tape (color coded and with sharpie).

khara it’s not that bad, but yes, sometimes rocks do end up in the yard, and I have found stuff seeded down in the ground 😂 If you're diligent about watering them and making sure they get enough sunlight, perhaps they'd grow into bigger rocks.

I really stopped caring lol. I know most of my collection by sight. Most of my boxes and bags are labeled (like Quartz stuff, Unknown Agates from somewhere, Jaspery stuff that fractures a lot- you know very technical terms). I figure by the time I lose my mind, or die, I really won't care anyway. Thankfully my daughter just started to get into the hobby, so at least my wife doesn't have to deal with all the crap when I'm gone (you guys miss out cause I told her to log on here and just sell it all, or have a huge giveaway). My daughter has a minor in Geology so she's pretty good with the ID stuff. As for my ever growing slab collection, well that presents a different problem, as I just keep cutting stuff up and dumping it into a bin, man there is a lot of stuff I need to sort.

Or just make more space... I think I like this idea best. Yes, a house addition. Let’s see….where can I put one…🤔
