I live in a duplex, and I don't have the space for a large upright saw. I would need something a little portable, that's why I was thinking of a tile saw. PDwight, I think your saying that the motor in that kind of saw would probally work. Would a cooling mechanism be needed and maybe some sort of vice to hold the rock. I don't think my teeth would work. Please excuse my ignorance of this issue, I still get a little scared about changing a fuse.

Thanks KD, saw it that time. Looks really nice, any idea what the blades cost for that thing? Can you use it just sitting on a table? As you can tell, I'm totally stupid about these things. Thanks,
Cher

The blades for the 10" cost just a hair under $45. before tax. Yes, the saw can sit just on a table (a stable table cuz it's kinda heavy).

KD, there is a guide and another thingy on the saw -- don't know exactly what ya' call it - that can be used to secure the rock. I use them sometimes, but most of the time I just hold it. Going to make a clamp tomorrow out of two long bolts with wing nuts and wood and see how it works Won't be as fancy at the one at the rock shop, but it's basically the same.
Cher, when I bought the first 10' DeWalt blade it was $55 at Lowe's. I killed that one when a rock slipped, hit the blade and flew off the table - YIPES! The blade I bought to replace it was exactly the same blade but only cost $44.95 or something like that. Don't know if it was on sale or if they charged me wrong on the first one.
(a stable table cuz it's kinda heavy).
Talk about heavy, the work bench we put ours on weighs a ton! Took three of us to move the darn thing and it was a struggle all the way!
