Ozzy clued me in on an older gentleman who was selling his 50 year old rock collection in Utah. I went down there and spoke with the gentleman, and we struck a deal on his collection.
I have been trying to get it moved for the past month and a half and finally got the last of it moved this weekend.
I only have a few pics to show, but this find is mind boggling!!
There is lots of extinct material, and lots of material that I have never even heard of.
I want to thank Ozzy and Rodney for helping me out. And a big thanks to my son Travis, who brought the loader.
First day at Ozzy's house we bought a trailer and built sides on it so we could fill it full of rock. Thats Ozzy standing behind it.
The start of the first load, thats John, Rodney, my Dad, and Travis is in the loader. John was a great help in identifying lots of things I had never seen before.
This is what was left of the first pile after we removed the first load, then I started thinking "Oh my, what have I done??"
This is the second pile before we started loading
This is Rodney playing in the rock pile while we are broken down on the side of the freeway during rush hour traffic. I spent alot of time on the side of the road this trip. I ended up leaving the trailer at a house out in the middle of nowhere while I limped my pickup home to see what needed to be fixed.
2 weeks later (after a a complete top end overhaul) the first load finally makes it to my house. It has 14,400 lbs of rocks in the trailer.
The next day I head back down for load 2, here is Ozzy posing with the second load, notice the new shirt he is sporting?? (nice job Lee!)
After the fiasco the last trip I decided to rethink my travel options, here is the outcome, it is loaded and ready to leave with 35,000 lbs of rock.
After cleaning out the first pile
Travis and I with the second load
There was also a very large wooden box of slabs, the box fell apart, but the slabs were still good.
We unloaded the semi today, that was quite a chore!
I have not weighed the last load yet, and it can wait a few days before it gets unloaded.
All in all I think I got about 30-32 tons of rough and about 500 lbs of slabs.
I will post pictures of the rough as I kind of go through it, if anyone has an interest in anything special let me know and I may be able to find it for you.
It has been kind of an ordeal, but I do believe the rock gods are still smiling up there, watching me run around and pick up a rock and go OOOOh look at this one, and then I see another one I gotta pick up and go OOOOh look at this one, and an hour later I still havent put anything in the pickup yet.
Sorry for so many pics, but I just had to share....................Tony
