Anyone having any probs with their lid gasket/liner? I have worn a hole on the inside of the rubber lid gasket on my 6lb Lortone. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not. This is the 2nd gasket that I have replaced. Anyone ever try and 'patch' the rubber liner with the old bicycle tire patch? Will it work? Thanks duke

Should work- Look for the source of the wear- on the 3 Lbrs the gasket comes off and it is important to clean it and dry it completly before putting it back on!

The only gasket I have had to replace is the one that came with a used barrel that came with the tumbler I got off of E-bay. Tami

How long have you had the tumbler Duke? I haven't yet had to replace any but I've only had my QT66 since February.

Cher. I've had the tumbler maybe a little over a year. I would have thought they would last a little longer. Just trying to find a cheap way to fix instead of having to buy a new lid gasket....or maybe my rocks are too big/too sharp/not enough water etc....but my other 12 lb Lortone is same age, but no lid probs..?? I think I'll try and see if the bicycle tire patch works..

I'm thinking when the time comes that I need to replace one, I'm going to stick it to the metal lid with rubber cement. Mine always seem to develop a bubble of air underneath them, like they want to implode. Don't know if it's really a problem but seems to me that would weaken the rubber having it stretched out like that.

FWIW
I always clean my lid and gasket...and recess where it sits in the barrel with a stiff brush and running water to be sure no grit or rock fragments are in there.

Thanks Dwight...I'll do that from now on. I have always cleaned the lid & gasket & barrell recess between stages, but I'll start cleaning under the lid gasket and lid where they join. The gasket comes off fairly easily so it should not be a problem. In the meantime, I'm going to try and use a patch and see if it will work, until I get a new gasket. Cross your fingers!!!

it'll be a year next month with my tumblers (33b) and no gasket probs here... wash everything in between stages
btw, be sure to completely dry the recess in the lid gasket where the metal lid fits in... it can rust/pit there if stays wet..

Funny, I just found out my lid gasket developed a hole this morning when I went to recharge. The grit managed to migrate right through the little pin hole and was packed between the gasket and metal lid. I'll have to fish it out of the garbage, wasn't thinking clear and forgot it could be repairable.
Okay, I know how this board tends to go. Seems like when one person has a odd problem it's contagious. Now I have to see if anyone had a barrel explode or nearly explode on them. (Went to loosen the wing nuts on my 15 lber this morning and it started to spray out everywhere. Good thing it was only about 15 feet to get out the garage door with it)

Haven't had any problems with the lid gaskets, but I got a used tumbler on ebay and the metal lid was starting to rust, steel wooled it and used car polish to coat it. now I do it to all the metal parts and no rust or tarnish.

Hi Duke,
I used to use paint tins before I got a 6lb lortone no problems yet. BUT
On the inside of the paint tins I used a Plastic paint lid (cut down) this was siliconed sealed to stop grit getting behind and forcing the plastic off, It is extreemly strong and lasted the tin out !!

Happened fast enough there even might be a warranty...haven't done anything about it, though, since I have an extra top so no pressure.

I'm going to try and patch the hole in my gasket with a bicycle tire patch and see if it works. I'll check the tumbler in about a week and see if it's holding and I'll let you know how (and if) it works. Sorry if my problem was CONTAGIOUS and some of you 'caught it'. Maybe the patch idea will work and all of you can use it as a somewhat cheap cure. Lots of good info though on how others 'do it'. Thanks for all the tips & etc.

HiDuke,
Better if you put a patch over the full lid ! A big one they put on the inside of a tyre. Just think what is happening inside the tumbler all the grinding and scraping its a sure rough place to be.!! where is the hole? Hope you suceed happy tumbling Jack Yorkshire UK

I just buy new gaskets for $4 at The Rock Shed. The last time I bought some, I noticed that they redesigned them to fit over the bolt in the middle. Before that, I used to put a band aid over the bot to protect the gasket. I read that idea here I think, but I don't know if it helped.

LOL,I have had them bulge, just take the rubber cover off, clean it and the cover inside face, put back together.... I have had them puke on my bench, leak when not put on straight,etc,etc...Most of the time they run great..... I clean everything with Dawn dish soap, through every cycle stage...(Everything).. I'm not a patch guy....I guess being a mechanic and carpenter, taught me to replace things, before they created a bigger mess... Sounds like you have this under control now..... The world of tumbling,a new adventure everyday...
