been doing variants of the bucket for a couple of years now and love it . I had not thought of the pads on the edge, is it just foan rubber covered and secured by duck tape?? I was using a clear plastic sheet to keep stray spay from me but your idea looks better. I do have one big question why do you raise the water container? It seems OK just to have the bucket bottom do the job. I am always open to a better idea ! Dicky

The pipe insulation works slick for making the edges of the plastic not so painful on the arms. I make a small platform inside the bucket to have a catch basin that is easier to clean and something that will catch the stone if I drop it. I did this after using just the bucket and having to fish around for the opal that I dropped in all the goop that collects.

Thanks for this information, gang. I have a Dremel with a flex shaft and may use this as an alternative for now.
What kind of water pumps do you all use?
Krystee, the hose/valve combo you're showing in the photo looks like the aquarium equipment I've got. Is that similar stuff or something else?
Thanks Paul

Paul,
Same stuff! Had reef tanks and planted fw for about 15 years. My drip system is a gravity feed made from a plastic bottle above my work area. Works great!

I don't use a pump I let gravity do that from a bucket hanging above my set up

Got it, thanks for the information. I like the drip idea much better. A lot of the agates I've picked up have pits and fracture lines and I like the idea of using my Dremel to do some "dentistry" work on the pits and such. Probably can't do anything about the fractures. Thanks for posting those photos. Very helpful!
