You have some good advise here. I would add that when you check your batch after about a week in the course grind, pull any that are ready to move forward. If need be, add some rocks to continue in the course grit. When you have enough to move forward, then start the next grits. they will go much faster. It is that first grit that takes the longest because we expect so much out of it. Never give up! You are off to a great start! Fran Thanks Fran. I just added some rocks to the mix. They look like they have already been ran thru a coarse grind so they are already fairly smooth. I would like to start another batch in the A-R 12 tumbler but I don't have any nice unough to do. Is there a place on the net I can buy them?

Should I add grit to my batch, say after the first week or second week?
If so how much would you suggest?

I would add that I find adding smaller media - either smaller chips of rock or ceramic media and even small marbles helps the load to "slide" on each other in the tumble rather then pounding and chipping each other. I usually go at least 10 days on coarse and do it at least twice if not three times befor advancing to fine. Karock
