I i`m certain , it is "petoskey " . They are not only found at Petoskey Michigan . They are found in several states in the midwest . I find them frequently ,and find several other varieties in central Illinois .

so the question still remains if it is agatized or limey/soft....and i guess a polish is the only way to tell....

Looks like lime, which is ok, if it does`nt have pitting , it will polish . Most are silicified , not aggatized . I have found "aggatized " ones . Quartz replaced, blue chalcedony replacement ones .

If it's lime based, you should be able to scratch it with a pocket knife. Knife won't scratch quartz. Don
