I hope everyone that goes to quartzite has a great time. I just got into rocks about 15 years ago. Never got to the Tucson show or Quartzite either, kept putting it off. Then a couple years I got too old and sick to continue to DO very much, but I like to read about the exploits of everyone on this board. It's almost like being there. So please post all the pictures you can, they are much appreciated by those of us who can't.

I'm probably going to use Jim's suggestion, in so far as purchasing a used off-road vehicle. Barbara's not going to let me by a camper although she's raised the idea of tent camping out in the national parks so ... one thing at a time. Still trying to convince my family to go out there. Maybe make a road trip out of it and get as far as Flagstaff again and see the sights (and drop in on GR ).

I loved Q last time. I will be going again in 2013, and this time my rocks will be coming with me or getting shipped ahead to avoid the hassel I had last time.

Hey Paul, I can fix you up with a nearly fully depreciated Subaru Forester. Seriously, there are a lot of really nice small, light weight camp trailers out there. Much more comfortable than sleeping in a tent. My last tent camp out we drove to the camp ground after work Friday arriving about 11:00 at night. At midnight I was pounding stakes in solid rock and getting grumpy with my wife because she couldn't hold the flashlight where I needed. A guy pulled up in a ratty old rv across from us. He backed in and a few minutes later I could see him sitting at his table drinking a cold beer and eating a bowl of chili or something. As soon as I got home I found a ratty old mini truck cab over camper for my little truck. Graduated to a better camper, then a ratty trailer, a new trailer, a new 31' motor home and then to our used 40' motor home. I wouldn't mind down sizing when we give up our shows but no more tents.

Hey John - Actually, I'm probably going to pull the trigger and purchase my friends' 1993 Land Cruiser, thanks for the offer though ;D ;D ;D . Actually, I got to thinking about the used lightweight trailer idea as I noticed that Larry's a missionary for the old "teardrop" trailer idea. I'm probably getting too old for tent camping but my boys would probably enjoy trying. Even if it's just in the backyard! Hey Paul, I can fix you up with a nearly fully depreciated Subaru Forester. Wait, I thought the only thing that would do is a Jeep Wrangler?

How many 8 year olds do you need to fit in there? ?

Plus you could probably pull a small trailer. My Subaru is rated for 2000 lbs. I'm guessing the one you are looking at is even more.

5000+/- or something like that. Tow gear included! Sooner or later, it'll look like those ones you see in the Australian Outback <joking>. Susan - sometimes five or six plus two to three adults to ride heard

Needless to say, sometimes what's brought back isn't anything close to even being leaverite. Just gravel. But everyone has fun!

When I went to Q in 2010, I built a bed for my truck canopy that would fit over some recycle boxes that I planned to use to haul rock home in. It worked great until I bought about 800 pounds of rock and it wouldn't all fit under my bed. You haven't had fun until you've tried getting dressed in a truck canopy that is about 18" from the bed to the ceiling of the canopy - - with no place to put your feet - glad I had some makeshift curtains for the canopy. I would do it again though just to meet the nice people of RTH. Oh btw, all that rock is still in the recycle boxes which now sits under some cedar trees. What was I thinking?

Garry, I can find most of my Quartzsite purchases still in the bags they came home in.

We drove our Suzuki Sidekick from WA state and stayed in Blythe at the 6. We were only there to sleep and were quite pleased with it. We might make it again this year, depends on if we can both get a week off at the same time.
