I'm making a rock tumbler using a motor from an ice cream maker. The motor turns at about 40 rpm, which is just right for my 4" barrels. I'm just not sure how many barrels I can put on without burning up the motor. I can't find any information on the horsepower.
Does anyone know how much weight an ice cream machine motor can tumble?
Thanks!

The ice cream maker I had...did run with real thick ice cream. So I'm thinking at least two 5lb barrels?

LOL, I thought you were actually going use the entire ice cream maker. I have large scrap piles and often get wild ideas............one is to turn a push mower upside down and use it as a flat lap. You would actually use the engine as a arbor and use the lawnmower shaft. Granted rigging up the pulley on the flywheel side might be odd but it could be done. Screw on 4 legs and a flimsy piece of sheet metal extending above the height of the grinding wheel and presto. Might not be a covington but some people can't spend the $ on this stuff it's not a cheap hobby.

Or you could use a discarding riding lawnmower deck and have multiple wheels and pulleys already installed, lol.

It should be geared pretty low to pull more than what you need. I know mine turns some hard ice cream. The motor is pretty noisy though, that would drive me nuts.

Does anybody know if these motors can handle being under a load 24 hrs a day for months at a time?

Thanks for all the replies! Rocky road ice cream sounds great!
I emailed the manufacturer, not expecting an answer as the warranty on the motor expired in 1974. They actually answered my question! The motor has 1/6 HP. I was thinking of running 12 lbs on it, but maybe I'll up it to 24 lbs.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Actually on reel mowers that how its done They use a lapping compound and run the blades backwards against the cutting bar. Well that method is used Mostly if the blades are not seriously dull. Other wise a grind and then a lapping procedure. Cabbing while cutting grass 2 favorite activities O and enjoying Rocky Road Ice Cream later Ed
