I'm looking for some kind of spray on lacquer or coating that I could put on copper and brass jewelry for a protective barrier. I have Permalac from Rio, but it has a brush on application that I find inefficient for ensuring a good coating. Do you guys/gals have any suggestions?

Have you tried Renaissance Wax?

looking for something a little more permanent than renaissance wax, that could be sprayed to get in all the little nooks and crannies of something like a viking weave.

Would an auto body shop have something useful?

I was thinking maybe clear krylon ( sp?) paint spray but now that I think of it, it's fairly soft and might get hazy if abraided. You might give it a try and see how it works...Mel

Mel, I was thinking along the same lines; just thought I'd put this out there to see if someone else had already done the trial and error.

Don In my search for preparation of the jewelry prior to application of Permalac NT, I ran across your post. Permalac (not NT) is sold by Rio, and Rio added a purple color to it. It does not have rave reviews. Permalac says it is their (Permalac) old formula. Now they add the NT. Permalac NT is sold by Permalac and Potomac Beads and has no color added. It does have rave reviews. Permalac send me to Potomac Beads to get the tiny containers. So I did. I just need to find out how to prepare the metal. Good luck. If you want larger quantity of it, get it from Permalac. Comes in quartz etc.

I moved away from coating copper jewelry that has extensive skin contact. Found it was just better to polish it when necessary and yes it will turn you green. The only time I coat something now is when there is a patina involved. I was using a clear engine ceramic coating that worked well.
