Hello my name is Bill. I recently joined here and have a story to tell yall, it does involve creating cabs too so dont move me mod please as I feel this is the correct place for this thread! I am a leg amputee and disabled, I recently had major surgery to my foot to straighten out my drawn up atthritic toes. I am not allowed to drive or walk for 3-6 months, in addition until the bones heal and the steel rods are removed I cannot leave the house due to possible infection except to go to the surgeon to change dressings. A group of RTH members found this out and MADE MY LIFE SO GOOD!!!!!! They offered to send me free rocks, slabs, preforms, finished examples etc! Not a rock or two but BOXES!!!! I am having a great time here sitting in my living room prospecting and rockhounding!!! I get their rocks out and sit in the sunshine with a lap tray in fron of the window with a bowl of water trying to learn the different rocks and patterns because they also identified them for me! I am going to start tracing out some shapes that show the cab like I want it as soon as Troy sends my templates which I am getting due to Helens thread, I am trading rose quartz that stars from the Hogg Mine in La Grange Ga, he is also sending turquoise and amozonite!!!!! Thank you Helen and Troy!!!! I am sending the rock giving members here boxes of rose quartz also even tho they didna ask for it. These wonderful RTH members define what the true essence of this forum is like!!! Yall would make great cowboys!!! LOL The rock giving angels are Rockjunquie, Marinedad, Donnies Treasures, and Frog n Bear!!!!! Thank all of you!!!!! My living room is taking me from the Owyhee mountains to Madagascar to EVERYWHERE!!!!!

orrum- Glad you found the forum and that it has given you some happiness. The kindness you have received from the folks here sure don't come as a surprise to me. I really could not put a price on just the advice alone that I have gotten and I am sure we would have never made it past tumbling rocks if it were not for the encouragement given here.

Hey Chuck at least you can tumble! LOL I started this summer with a tumbler n some rocks I found in Texas. Tumbled them several times with the rough grit for 10 days each time and they r not getting nice n smooth n rounded. I am pretty sure they r chert/flint. Broken they have a glassy surface. Mostly browns and blackish with streaks. When I get back to the rock shop I am going to put them back on and tumble for weeks!!! LOL Diane, Frog n Bear, sent some tumbles n they are so shiny n slick that my arthritic fingers have trouble picking them up! They r awesome! Nice meeting you Chuck.

I tumble hard stuff for at least 4 - 6 weeks, peek at it after three weeks to see how its progressing and if it needs a wee bit more fresh grit or water tumbling is time and patience

Hello Rockhobbit Sheri!!! No need to call me sir, very respectful but I feel that term is for old men that smell weird! LOL I pmed u n thanks. I have run out of rose quartz but no fear I will be going again when I heal. I look frward to prowling thru your rocks!!! Thanks for the charity! On the tumbling thats exactly what I intend to do, let em tumble until they wear the barrel out if nessesary! LOL Matter of fact I think I will get someone to br ok ng my tumblrr n box of accesories down to the house and start a batch in the far bathroom, I can probable not hear it well in my end of rf he house. I read somewhere about putting them in a styrofoam cooler to silence the racket. Thanks for the advice!!!!

Orrum, such an awesome story! With all the negative things we hear about every day it is nice to here a story like your's. I hope you get better quickly. Certainly a wonderful hobby like rockhounding will aid in your recovery. I never fail to feel better after spending time with the rocks. Looking at the patterns and colors truly gives us a glimpse of the early years of our planet. Like snapshots in time. Or in some cases a time lapse exposure. Agates so often look to me as though there was a stange soup brewing and then was snap frozen. All those swirls of colors and bits of inclusion. Truly something to fill our minds and hearts with wonder. You not only get to discover the splendor of the rocks but also have seen first hand the spendor of the human heart ! ................

Orrum, You Rock ! Thank you for sharing that wonderful 'behind the scenes' story. In most forums you will find quite the opposite (all negative and backstabbing) I did not feel that was the case with this forum and the members here...just don't feel it, and your story confirmed it.
So welcome to the 'light side' = rocks, and discovery, and great people with an abundance of talent, patience (for us nuubies) and great big hearts.
I'm usually quite on the boards, but like you, I've come to love this place and read up on everyones posts. Mary

I was asked about my first adventure once healed. It will be to continue and finish last years adventure. I have a slide in camper for my pickup and was camping my way across America. Had a injury to my foot in Texas n had to come home. I belong to a online forum for old diesel GM truck owners and I put a thread on there about my trip and the members invited me to psrk at their house n plug into electric! I was traveling with no campground expense, sometimes when no member was near I camped in Walmart. I hope to continue and put a thread on here and stay with a bunch of rockhounds and go prospecting and learn some silversmithing and wire stuff!!!! Really want to mine some turquoise and pic jasper. Hopefully my foot stays sound cause I want the trip to be 5-6 months long!!! Last yesr the truck forum had a overlarge oil can made and I carried it getting members to sign. I got pics but my tablet cannot post to this forum, I can post elsewhere, dont understand this. I would like to get rockhounds to sign a momento too. I would keep a thread going on here so yall could follow me. If you are interested look on The Truck Stop for a thread My Trip, the lil 6.2 that could, it has pics and a great story. Look on "todays posts" the thread is still very popular and continues my recovery story. Thanks for your interest and good thoughts folks!!!

How awsome for you Orrum!!! To post to the forum, all you have to do is upload your pix to an online site like PhotoBucket (free), and then link from there. I THINK you can upload 1 pix here too, but it's hard to show a lot of pix 1 at a time, even if it still works.
Am so very glad you have been enjoying yourself:)!!
