Tony you gotta go after several good rains. Then you wslk around n look for blue. There are two honey holes where you dig n the mine dumps for aqua, I have to show you where. Also take a screen to shovel dirt thru, my screen is a bread crate like the srores get packs of bread off the truck. It has holes a lil bigger than a inch. That wsy I get a piece big enough to cab. This also turns out a lot of very good pieces of darker quartz and even some very ugly smoky that slabs out beautiful cabs with stirations n lines everywhere.

Lee that might be the very approach I need to get quartz to shine! It started out 5 inches long but the expando threw it across the room and it broke on the concrete floor. Its about 3.5 inches now and oval shaped.

I have rose quartz that I collected about 52 years ago with my uncle. Wish I knew then what I know now about the Hogg mine. I remember a honey hole for berly and aquamarine being toward the front of the mine. There was also moonstone found at the mine back then. I went about 5 years or so ago and did not find any moonstone at all. Did find some beryl crystals on the back south side. Back when I was 10 years old I remember seeing some very fine aquamare crsytals about the size of a thumb and as long. At one time the well pump on the property had some very nice beryl crystals in the wall. I suspect that is gone now. The crossroads for quartz crystals and the Hogg mine were the first places I collected rocks with my uncle.

Hey Frankie the aqua hot spot is still n the same area. Also I found some milk white rock, a big one and broke it with a hammer n when I showed it to the owner he said it was moonstone. I took some home but not cabbed any yet. I figured it wasnt good because it had no sheen.

I never got to go dig for crystals. I'd love to do that too. It'd be great to go with those who know how to hunt that place. I made a sledge with a short handle, after my last trip, so I'll be more ready to break out the clear on the big chunks at the Hogg. I brought back buckets with fractured rock, so I don't get clear more than a nickle size Oh, well, you can't know what to do until you know what to do, lol. T
