Any of the dry washes north or west of Phoenix should produce some nice usable material. With the weather warming it might produce a good crop of those buzz tailed snakes too. Watch where you put your hands and feet.

There huge open desert area field at 19th ave and Deer Valley North East corner when I first started the hobby I was fascinated with that field and its rocks I'm not any great ones for lapidary but it s good representation of Phoenix rocks
another area I like to browse is on Glendale Ave & just West of the 101 about 1/4 mile --south side of the street there a ancient wash that run through there and the rocks tumbled down there from the mountains long ago I have found some interesting stones there some cuttable ....

Just about 20 miles west of Phoenix area is a secret spot covered with different agates and jaspers! It is everywhere. Reds, yellows, blues, whites, moss, plume, fortification and more! A hidden gem it is. Anybody want to go? Seriously! I am thinking about hitting Phoenix May 18-19 is this too late? Too hot for morning hounding? Should be good snake hunting too if anybody wants to see snakes on purpose!

I'm thinking a committed rock hound could still get out there real early --the sun comes up around 5 in the morning-- and get a couple hours in
and if its the area I'm thinking its easy walking and good pick'ns so it would be a good stroll but in that time frame it would be the last of hounding even the snakes go under a rock which makes it tough for us desert rats mohstly

If Sheri offers to take you some where, do it. If she collects the stuff you can bet it is good. The stuff I am playing with that she and Diane directed me to or took me to is awesome. I look at some of this stuff now and think that it is a miracle that I was able to recognize some of it as good as opposed to junkite.
