We have plenty of lizards in our yard. Our cat has noticed them as well, so now there are not so many. Our little 5.5 lb cat doesn't seem to be afraid of anything. She has caught birds, lizards, mice, a rat, a squirrel.... We temporarily have stacks of boxed rocks by the house at the moment. Stack is about four feet high by 18' long, and 4' wide. Cat had to walk by the rocks to get to the garden. I swear she was tiptoeing, and didn't take her eyes off the rocks. We wonder what was in there that made her so cautious. She was like that for several days, and we haven't seen anything scary. I'm thinking --- snake. I don't know a non-venomous snake from a venomous snake. And my question is -------------- under the circumstances, what should I do when confronted with a snake hiding in a pile of rocks? My first reaction is to slowly back away. Is there quick way to determine if the snake is venomous from a distance of a few feet? It would be great if all the pink snakes were poisonous, and no others --- or some such quick way. Thanks. You have more rocks than jamesp has firewood. Four and a half cords of rocks! Holy cow! I hope you aren't buying many. Your inventory is deep! @rockpixkerforever that chuck is outstanding. Love the color. Where was he found? ETA to answer the question! Pat there aren't likely anything venomous in your yard. And if it was there, the only thing venomous in your area is a rattlesnake. Northern Pacific is your local rattler.

Hey, the frog's feelings are hurt. He is neglected. One of you ladies needs to kiss him so you will have your own shinning prince to keep in the wood shed.

jamesp , frogs have their own day - March 20. He'll just have to wait until next year. Maybe you can give him some attention until then.

In the south it is lady like for a lady to say she stepped on a frog if she accidentally passes gas. As mentioned, frogs get absolutely no respect. It should be reassuring for them to know they have Frog Day. I will pass that along. Listen to them, they are over joyed

Amazing that individuals CAN be heard amongst all that clutter.

A 50 minute drive to the Newport Aquarium, the kids love it. We've yet to stop in at the Creation Museum up that way. Creation Museum Maybe we'll go there for World Locust Day next year.

Garage Rocker You are probably right, she looks pregnant.
She looks to be some kind of garter snake, most likely an Eastern Garter. They give live birth.
Wow, can you just picture 100 baby snakes? She looks like she may be dropping more than a few babies, probably soon.
Nice find, and great photo!

Nice find, and great photo! Yes, Eastern Garter. She did not want to be bothered with. I find them all the time around the yard, they like the flower beds. May be finding a lot more of them soon, huh? She is pretty big compared to when I saw her last year. Lives under my neighbor's front stoop. He's never home, hope he doesn't notice her. Afraid he wouldn't want that action going on at his front door.
Around here, it's predominantly garter snakes. I've also seen corn snakes, black racers, black rat snakes, rough green snakes, the occasional copperhead and Northern water snakes. There are timber rattlers around, but haven't run into any.
