These very colorful turtles I'm showing were part of my breeding colony of Cuora bourreti which I successfully bred for years. I was blessed to be the first one in the US to succeed in breeding this IUCN Critically Endangered species. When I was no longer able to take care of the colony they were moved to the 'Turtle Survival Alliance' organization just prior to my back surgery and I'm happy to report that they are doing well and several hatchlings were produced since leaving my care.

Next up is a large female Florida softshell turtle rescued from the center of the highway- I95 - no where near water; I took her home and released her on the canal I live on.

So cool! How much does that big momma weigh? Are softshells as potentially dangerous as snappers?
Thanks for posting all your turtle photos! Seems they all did good for you.

ErichBouretti? Not galbinifrons anymore? And congratulations on your success with a super difficult species.

Nice save, you did a good thing! Imagine living where you do, lots of wildlife of that sort get out on the highways.
That face, those eyes, makes me think of Jar Jar Binks! Jean

By the way, you don't want me in your foursome. I spend less time golfing and more time looking for critters. Oh my, that is one bad boy! I know they can take off a finger in one snap, but that one could sever a wrist! Don't know that I'd be holding it without keeping my eyes on it...
I had two little turtles as a kid, red eared sliders. You know, in the clear bed pan shaped plastic basin with the plastic palm tree? Maybe before your time, lol. I hated having to clean that thing out. Prefer fur children.

@shotgunner They used to be thought of as a subspecies of C.galbinifrons, i.e. C.g.bourreti. Formally recognized as a separate species from C. galbinifrons now.
