I know this comes up from time to time, but I haven't seen it in some time. How did you end up picking the name that you use here on this site.
Condor agates are my favorites, so that is why I picked Condor.
What's the story behind yours?

Mine's rather obvious. I live in Texas and love hunting and collecting petrified wood. The thrill is in the hunt.

I had a hybrid wolf in California but had to give him away when I moved back to Texas because of not being able to contain him properly in the new housing situation I'd be in. Then, things changed with time and new housing arrangements and one day, a teacher at my school asked me if I wanted a hybrid wolf pup. Yay! So, I got "Bear"...the Lone Wolf. I love wolves and the great outdoors and yada, yada so when I got into astronomy and built my observatory in the backyard, I named it "Lone Wolf Observatory".
When I got into rockhounding it just seemed right to call our whole family the "Lone Wolf Rockhounds" and I, of course, assumed the name "Lone Wolf rockhound".
Tada!

My family nickname is erbo (don't ask - its a long and slightly bizarre story) and my surname is Jones. Hence erbojones.

I was born in Kansas - lived there for all of 6 mos. before we were sent to Hawaii - but my family moved there after my dad retired from the Army. All total, I've lived the longest in Kansas then any other place. So even though I'm now in New Mexico, I still think of myself as a Kansan.
It's also the name I came up with back in '98 when I was missing "home" a wee bit while at UVA. I've used it ever since.

I have always marveled at some of the screen names here, and wondered how cool it would have been to have picked a rock sounding name to go by myself. I found this sight by accident while looking for information about the fasceting side of lapidiary work. Little did I know that I would become hooked for life with this site. I ended up using the first part of my e-mail address. dtc are our names - Dave, Tonja and Christian; and the mor is short for Morgan Or as I like to say: Dave tumbles/cuts more Ohio rocks ;D

My screenname is Rosebudmn but when Rose joined I changed the display name to just Cher to avoid confusion. Rosebud has been my cb handle since 1977 and the mn is for Minnesota. It has nothing to do with rocks but just has been the name I've used for way too many years.

Mine is short for my website. When my brother and I were building BigArizona.com we would email back and forth with BAZ as the subject, I forget who shortened it.
Now if I could get the dude to do more work on it, I have a lot of content to add but he is busy being a vice president of a company and some junk.

Erbo, I just had a flashback from an episode of Laverne and Shirley where somebody said their last name meant, "Help! There's a hog in my kitchen." LOL
I've been Lbowman1 on Ebay for ages. On forums that involve Ebaying to some degree I usually use that name so people know it's me they're dealing with. Unless it's already taken and yes, I have run into other Lbowman1's.
They're not as nice as me, though. ;D

I started out here as NMrocks *self explanatory* then changed to WyckedWyre to avoid being confused with other NM members.
Hope to have a website with the same name someday, where I can peddle my wares, or Wyres as the case may be.

Well in my case it was rallying that got me back into rocks...
and "stoner" was already taken (I think Ed had that name well before he started playing with rocks)

When I first started on the internet years ago, I kept running into "that ID is already in use" when I had to register on some site. So I sat back and thought what would be a catchy name that no one else is likely to think of. About the fiftieth thing that popped into my head was Spacegold. It has no particular significance in my life other than that. And so I have always been Spacegold on the internet. Ebay, Yahoo, RTH, etc. Have not run into anyone else using it.

Moops is the misprinted answer to a Trivial Pursuit question in a Seinfeld episode. George asks the bubble boy " who invaded Spain in the 8th century?" The answer is the Moors, but the card says Moops and a fight ensues. This is also the name we use geocaching, and my wife is known around northwest Ohio as Mrs Moops.

All this talk of screen names made me change mine. From the very creative larrywyland3 to Spirit Stone. Ammolite is my favorite stone. The Native Americans called it Spirit Stone and Buffalo Stone. The name Buffalo stone came from the first story of about Ammolite. A Native American woman was out looking for food and firewood. She heard a voice and when she looked around she saw a stone glowing in the sun light. A voice cried take me back to your village and I will bring you prosperity. She did and the next day a herd of buffalo were spotted. Since that time Native Americans have collected Ammolite and kept them in their homes and medicine bundles. As they collected the stones they found great diversity and each one seeming to have an inner light. This is how the stone got it's other name; Spirit Stone. Each stone is believed to have its own spirit. I have read several slightly different accounts of the two names, but that is how I remember it. Once it started being used in jewelry it started being called many other names. Korite, Arrgonite, Alberta Opal to be some of the more well known. When it was recognized as a semi-precious gemstone; its official name became Ammolite. And it is now the official gemstone of Alberta Canada. Alberta Canada is the only place where the really gemmy Ammolite is found. I have heard that some is found in Montana, but have not seen any. Other fossilized ammonites will sometimes have a bit of a green or red color to the fossilized shell, but do not have that inner glow. For that reason they are not considered to be Ammolite. (It has to do with the amount of shell preserved and the unique geological events that occured in Aberta and the unique inland sea called the Bear Paw Sea the existed millions of years ago.

I've used this name for a long time - it's from a song by an artist that I've loved for years. She rocks, her lyrics rock, her music rocks....I should've seen this coming...
