Here's the Beacon Star 6" Economy Grinder that came a couple days ago. I hope to convert it to hold 5 - 1/2" wide convex diamond wheels. I'm also hoping that a heat gun will allow me to take the original glued on ID plate off without damaging it, so it can be put back on after soda blasting and painting the machine. ] Would masking tape protect the ID?

The ID plate is a little bit ragged along the top edge. I'm afraid peeling the masking tape off might damage the plate more.

One more that needs some attention this winter. My vintage Victor sphere machine needs all new (and safer) wiring and new bronze bushings.

Found my Beacon Star machine in a Nov. 1966 issue of Lapidary Journal today. $74.95 back then. can you imagine what a heavy cast aluminum machine would cost today ?

WOO HOO !! Just ordered 150 nylon spacer washers. 1/8" thick X 3/4" id X 1-1/8" od. These are going to be great for getting the spacing I want between wheels. I may order another 150, just to have them on hand for other projects. Where did you get the spacers? Looks perfect for any arbor project. Lee

Just ordered a bunch of old lapidary magazines from the 60's and 70's. They're loaded with info about vintage machines. Wife's gonna kill me for bringing a load of musty old books in the house. Oh well, you only die once. lol

My second order is out for delivery today. Got a set of extra long Allen head sockets a couple days ago. Now I can remove all of those old set screws without sacrificing any knuckle flesh. Got the hood on the Beacon Star machine disassembled. As soon as I get the rest of the machine apart, I'll post a pic of all the parts laid out on a piece of cardboard.
I'll be bidding on another piece of vintage equipment tonight. Ain't saying what it is. Don't need more bidder competition. I'll only say that I already have one, but the one I'm bidding on is a later, improved model.

Just wondering.... I use PVC pipe cut to whatever length I need. Why the expensive washers instead?

Not an arbor this time. A very well built accessory. If I win it, I'll post a pic of the one I have, and a pic of the improved version.

Just wondering.... I use PVC pipe cut to whatever length I need. Why the expensive washers instead? The washers are a little bit wider OD. More contact with the wheels. Even schedule 80 PVC pipe isn't as wide as these things.

You might check the Albuquerque craigslist, lately I've been seeing some old equipment show up. But they are in pretty bad shape, and they want wayyyyy to much money for me.

The smaller the footprint, the more chance of wheel wobble.

WOO HOO !! Just scored another vintage piece. An old W.C. Antoine slab grabber. I already had the early model. The one I won is the improved model with add on parts. Here's my old one. I'll add pics of the new one when it gets here.

Last I saw it was about $26 or $28 for that lot of parts. Glad you got those.
