The design of that cab is amazing. What great material you used. Say, which of the photos best resembles the actual tones and hues of the stone?

Beautiful cab. The crystalline background works really well with this stone because of the contrasting shapes and colors. No single background works for everything.

Whoa, with that rich green the geode picture looks fabulous. But I like the grey background too to show off the stone. An overnight Picture Pro!

Beautiful cab!!! I would like the gray best, but it is in shadow. Maybe you could light it from the front. I used to use that same paper for all my pictures. You can get beautiful results.... however, with my camera, at least, it messed with the gray value and produced oversaturated colors which were misleading on some stones. If that happens, bump down the gray value with your software.

Thanks for all the kind comments & helpful advice. Who would have thought taking photos would be as chalenging as making them?
Jasper-hound, on my monitor, the closest in color is the last photo on the grey background. I didn't notice it before, but as rockjunquie pointed out, it looks like it's in a shadow. I am going to try again to get this one right.
I'm also going to abandon the yellow background, it hasn't worked for any I've tried.

great color and pattern in that cab. good luck with the camera setup. don't feel bad it takes me longer to photograph and type up the etsy listing for a cab then it takes me make the cab start to finish too.

Friends, here are two more photos taken in natural sunlight using my cardboard & tissue "lightbox" on the gray background. This has given the most accurate color rendition. I think I'm dialing in on a good photo process. Thanks for all of your help.

Rich - Looking great, you are definitely getting it dialed in. BTW - great cab, I really like the capture on it, either orientation works form me. Cheers

Your background geode is kinda magic, outlining the best colors in most of your cabs. The white balance also seems more correct with this background. I'd say go with it, as long as the cab's colors don't match too badly the geode's ones.

Thanks all. Adrian, I'm partial to the geode as a background too.

Since you are dialing in, I thought I would share a little observation. Look at this image away from the others. It's overexposed. How do I know? See how the fingertips alsmost disappear into the background, they got washed out in the exposure. Next I composited three of your images. On the left is the overexposed one in hand. In the middle is the one from the geode - notice it is more yellow, and on the right is the one you like best in sunlight. I have no specific point to make with this last image. It's just a fun way to see the differences of the various images.

Scott, that's very enlightening, no pun intended. I really appreciate that.
