Those garnets are cool! I've heard there's garnets in the river west of town here but I've never looked.

Found this pyrite today while on break at work. Only six rocks were not encased in ice this happened to be one of them. 3/4 stone- drip edge

Nice collection of rocks, nice to have a creek with garnets behind the house:). Where abouts do you live? Agree with Tom. You can hunt rocks any time! What a lovely handful of garnets in your first photo!

I have fond memories of looking for garnets at Shooters Hill (NSW, Australia)when I was just 19. Damn, they were good times, riding around on my old AJS 500 (motorcycle for the uninitiated). Never found as many and as good looking as you did though, didn't know what I was doing then, errr hang on, I still don't.

That makes two of us Ripping around the outback on that bike sounds like a great time. spring melt is almost over can't wait to see what new deposits were left for us in the stream, and have a few weekend trips planned to try for some beryl and quartz

Well I got around to taking some pictures of the few rocks we have gathered. some in my earlier years but most have been found during last summers adventures. All the cool big rocks are outside in the gardens under the snow sorry about my picture taking skills in advance. raw garnet and perhaps a few rubys? no idea? river tumbled quartz random tumbled rocks from my childhood no idea except purple may be amethyst?? citrine right unkown left? rose quartz coal? No idea but it is cool more quartz from our one pocket we hit! That's all our good rocks I think? who knows what the boy has picked up in our travels hehe. As you can see I need to spend a lot more time researching how to identify rocks and the rocks that will tell me where others may lie. I know around here to look for beryl but that is about it. Been taking notes nonstop as soon as the snow melts off i know someone else is ancy to get back in the dirt. Thanks for looking and happy hunting! Matt

I'm Pretty sure the blue/green rock you're unsure of is a piece of copper ore with azurite/malachite showing. This is pretty much what I've been seeing around my friends claim sites recently, just so happens they are copper claims. This my telltale for identification. Blue/green growth on the surface generally leads to copper ore underneath. :-)
