ahh. ok. that sucks. so, any ideas on where to buy the good stuff rather than from a rock shop and paying to have it shipped? it seems like some machine shop or other should be using this stuff that i could buy a little off of them. If you have sandblasting supply just ask them for silicon carbide. They stock it, and alox too. The garnet is for special applications when they want less aggrezzive surface profile changes.

A lot of SiC and AO is manufactured by Washington Mills and resold to distributers. Believe they are in Niagara NY. Using tremendous amounts of cheap hydro power. I had 150 pounds shipped from their distributer in Vermont. It came in three 5 gallon buckets. Cost including shipping was $317 via UPS. A big chunk of the cost was shipping. Miles has a branch here in Georgia but were out of SiC 30/60. Georgia is an international supplier of granite and marble. And make a bunch of headstones. Miles Supply is a big distributor for Washington Mills. The mix is SiC 30/60 and is very good at coarse grind stage. Here it is www.milessupply.com/product.php/pid/3/sid/44/prodid/379More grit types for sandblasting and dressing for giant cable saws. One type is staurolite... www.milessupply.com/shopall.php/pid/3/sid/44
