This one I found in Woodruff, AZ. I cut it last night and really like it. Anyone know what it is? Thanks, Andrea Backlit

Looks suspiciously like some Calcite with Franklinite specimens that I have. Is it soft? Does it fluoresce? The reddish areas might also be Rhodonite...

You'll need a short-wave ultraviolet light to see if it fluoresces (glows, changes color)...I guess you could try one of those novelty Home Depot blacklights if you have one around, but long-wave UV doesn't typically emit light from the correct wavelength to get your specimen to fluoresce (the exception being when certain impurities are present), but it may be worth a try as those long-wave blacklights are considerably cheaper than the short-wave...As far as what to look for, I believe Calcite (and certain others too) can fluoresce in any number of different colors depending on the impurities inside, so getting your rock to glow can be really informative, as well as look amazing in the dark. Let us know what you find out if you try the UV light...I'm fairly new to collecting fluorescent minerals, myself, so I'd definitely be interested in hearing back your results!
