I was off work today and enjoyed the opportunity to cab for a few hours. These first are boulder opal. Opal 1 Opal 2 - This is one i re-did from an old cab. I had dropped it and several pieces of opal had popped out. I took about 1/16" off all around. Opal 3 Opal 4 Opal 5 Turritella Stromatalite (Thank you Daniel!) Laguna 1 Laguna 2 Thanks for looking! Great shine Roger, and some really nice BO compositions. BTW, the "turretila" is actually stromatalite.

Great shine Roger, and some really nice BO compositions. BTW, the "turretila" is actually stromatalite. Thank you Daniel! I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was. I looked for the post where you had named the slabs for me, but couldn't find it lol. The material is new to me so I looked it up. Stromatalite can be as old as 3.5 BILLION years. It is formed from the fossilized remains of layered mats of cynobacteria. This type of material is the oldest fossil record of life on earth. Very cool stuff!! - Roger

Really nice work and materials! That Laguna cab is exceptional. As a boulder opal fan I really like all of those. Do you know what field it's from? One looks like Koroit but I can't ID the others. I've never seen boulder with yellow common opal before. It really adds a great color element with the brown and play-of-color areas. Great looking stones.

I have bought all my boulder opals from the same miner & mine. His claim seems to have a lot of nice variations and the ironstone has always been very stable, typically taking a great polish.

Love the first, second and fourth BO's along with both lagunas. You don't see material that good too often.
