So you're using the smaller 4 1/2" blades, that may be the difference. My friend is using larger diam blades (7 1/4"?) than that, did not mention any problem with chipping. Then again, he is not trimming preforms. He uses it to help round out/take off high spots when prepping for spheres, not on slabs.
About five blades, four CDs. The CDs are a smaller diam than the blades, so there's a gap where rock chips/debris can get out of the way. I've never personally tried it. Your set up looks good, Steve! A lot of this hobby is try it, and find out what works best.

yep..buck fifty each blade.. and they chipped with cd/s between...not as bad without. Might be the smaller diameter..don't know. They chipped worse at lower speeds too. I buy them at a local "Trade Center"..that's the name of it. They import Chinese stuff by the trailer load. I buy my little Dremel diamond cut-off wheels and drill bits there too. But 4" diamond trim blades are the largest diameter they stock. It works well.

Many thanks,

The cheapest place I can find is Harbor Freight and a 4" tile saw blade is about $13

No, they don't have a web site..it's called the "Ozark Trade Center" stick that and "+ greenbrier, ar." into a search engine and you will get the address and phone number. It's about 5 miles north of Greenbrier, Ar....or 3 miles south of Damascus, Ar.. They "used" to ship stuff here and there...don't know about now though. They are one of the cheapest blades I have ever seen... PitBull brand. Also on Amazon, Ebay. I hope they get some more in though (or brought some more out--they buy them by the big box)... I only left one hanging on the peg when I bought 7 er 8 of them few months ago.

I built mine with a 5/8" arbor from Grizzly Industrial (about $50) and 4 7" Black Widow ($10 each) and a lortone splash guard and a spitter. Works great and no chipping. No spacers used and it is about 1/4" wide. Several hundred cabs preformed and no noticable wear.
