On the serpentine = asbestos = health hazard thing, you're totally fine as long as you're using water or oil coolants. It's the dust from dry cutting you have to worry about, and you'd always want to wear dust protection anyway, no matter what you're cutting. And sure, if you're dry cutting a lot of it, you're going to accumulate ambient rock dust in your work area. Even then, we're talking years of exposure before it's a concern, IMO.

When you rockhound the Vancouver Island (and other) beaches, keep your eyes open for arrowheads. Usually, they jump out at your from the shape.

I live on Vancouver Island! I scour the beaches regularly! I find tons and tons of flower stone (porphyry feldspar crystals usually in basalt matrix) And tons of dallasite (brecciated japsers I'm told) and rhodonite, but not on the beaches, have to go to a specific mountain! Also c

And you can find rhodonite, but not really on many of the beaches, it's best to go to a specific mountain!

I found some malachite and azurite on a huge rock that's from Texada island( a short ferry ride from Vancouver Island! Unfortunately was too big for me to keep. However I do still know where it is.. here's to hoping one day I can collect it!!

I currently have the following Lortone QT12/66 rotary tumbler, Lortone C300 rotary tumbler, 2x Viking Vibrasonic 2x 14lb and 2x 6lb hoppers (Diamond Pacific) (USA) vibrating tumblers, Hans lapidary 6 wheel rock grinder and polisher, 6 inch blade and wheel combo unit that is currently under redevelopment, with Silicon Carbide grit Fixed80, F220, F600, F1200, with Tin Oxide (1.0 micron) and Aluminum Oxide (0.3 micron) polishes.
