I have spent most of last winter getting trails into my claims so here's what I have so far. some fine gold, red jasper some with quartz, some with gold in the jasper and or quartz. 1000s of pounds in the 5 lb and under but some 300 to 700 lbs the bigger stuff seems to be more red than the smaller rocks So the question is now what. no big deal or is this a how factor? any comments would be great.

Clearly you you the prospecting bug.. but you need to go further.. investing in a few tumblers or Lapidary equipment would be the next move. Slab saws etc would be the best way to approach the larger samples.. while the shards could be tumbled and seeing how you have roughly the same hardness.. all can just be thrown into the tumbler.. But I see in you're comments, that you might be heading down the "for sale" path.. which I can't offer any support with. Granted and depending on the samples..(image is everything) some of these samples can offer the lap artist a few nice works of art.

Whether you are offering your production for sale or just for the appreciation of members, we need to see pics. First off we like to see pics because we like seeing pretty pics of rocks folks find locally. But most important, pics of rough, slabs, cabs etc from your material allows folks to evaluate your finds/products as lapidary material and see if hey would like to get some from ya. It will also give you an idea as to whether your finds are valuable/desirable enough to others to justify any kind of commercial exploitation.....Mel

not thinking of selling claims but maybe the rock. its in the coldest rainforest around near a volcano. the terrain is steep and un forgiving and will require the use of 1/2" cable high wires and trolly system to operate site. only have a feww pictures so far and not sure how to post on this forum. I know nothing about red jasper and how to evaluate the quality.I did crush a little and it does have gold in it I'll work on pics.

Go to member photo section and read the tutorial on photobucket. It's free to join photobucket, easy to use and that's how a lot of us store and post our pictures.
Red and yellow are the two most common jasper colors and very very common. If your material is patterned in an attractive way ie poppies, breccia, elegant banding or combinations of various tones, pictures etc. You might have something. If it's just plain non patterned red or yellow, it's probably not worth your effort to mine it. Any material with actual gold stringers ( not just gold bearing sulfides like pyrite) is valuable as a gemstone, even gold in plain white quartz. Gold bearing pyrite etc is common in many jasper types and is kind of pretty sometimes but not all that special. I was not commenting on claims for sale but rather suggesting you show pics of your jasper finds so folks who know about such things can tell if it's a desirable lapidary stone. Texture is also important for a jasper to be good lapidary quality too. Many jaspers are porous, pitted, fractured, bricky or contain too many included softer materials. Good lapidary jasper must be hard, homogeneous and glassy....Mel

pictures would be nice. more important discuss the rock and your interests. this is a discussion forum. if the only interest is to sell the rock, this may not be the best place, but you might get some advice on going to shows ... etc. actually offering rock is better received after you have been around a while.
