well, here is the first bunch I worked with the vibe this past week, didn't intend a shine on them but some started to take one anyways. That is encouraging because I will be starting my first batch of agate/jasper today and this time the aim is to get a shine on those puppies. Thanks for all the input everybody. I feel very encouraged and I'm on my way!

Snow.. Becasue of all the stones or most of them have divots etc.. I would do a pre-tumble first which would take about 1 or 2 weeks without any sort of grit.. just allow the stones to tumble on their own.. find the hardness etc.. this pre-tumble will help wear away a few of those deeper divots or pits.. Thou cutting these pits away would be suggested. The only reason one would place the smaller stone in the mix is just to keep things flowing so I'm hoping that you don't have your heart set on seeing anything come of those smaller stones. You do have a nice mix and size variation.. but I don't any that stick out as going to be cream of the crop..

first batch in and running, did a 12 hour check a few minutes ago and it was pretty dry. It seemed quite wet when I checked just before bedtime at about the 3 hour mark. rinsed and added more grit and its running again. I was able to do a bit of culling and replaced the rocks I removed with filler to keep levels up and onward from here. It is working faster than I thought it would. Interesting! Remember that your grit will basically double in number each 12 hours, so you can just add more water and then only rinse at the 24 hour mark.....that is where this tumbler is soooo wonderful, you only use a tiny amount of grit each batch!!!!

I too have definitely learned what not to pick up snowmom. My rocks look just like yours. You can tell those are Lake Superior rocks right? Just picked up a bunch today. Found my first agates too!! I'll post pics tomorrow.
