Nick, I'd certainly go for it being petrified wood and it seems to me the definition of shrinkwood is somewhat flexible. As I've always understood it, shrinkwood is often multicolored, with what appears to be cracks that were fossilized at a different time radiating through the specimen which may have partially rotted before it began to fossilize. Your black and white wood certainly seems to have areas that look to be filled in with distinct mineralization contaminants. I see what I presume are growth rings and the individual alternating rings are light and dark as well. I'm at a loss for scale on that specimen. Cheers. Tom

Thanks Tom, I will put something for scale in a pic with it tomorrow when the sun is back out from behind the clouds and will then edit to add the scale pic in!!!
