Central wyoming and it does not scratch OK. It's not any known form a Bertrandite. Doesn't contain fluorite/purple anything. I am going to say it is some form of Opalite/Jasper. But lacks any common or "market" name. Perhaps you are the first to find it. No matter what, we'd love to see what you make from it.

Yep, I checked and you are correct Scott. I did not know that and had not even thought of it as all those purple opals and agates etc seem to come from beryllium mines. I incorrectly assumed the two must be connected. My bad. Now you have me wondering what the purple color is in Burro Creek and Henderson Purple. Think the Henderson comes from a beryllium deposit too but is agate. Is that fluorite purple color in those too I wonder? I'll see if I can Google it and find out....Mel
PS: Seems like Manganese might be the mineral in those two. Now that I think of it the Henderson purple used to be called amethystine agate and the deposit may have been manganese not beryllium. Maybe Ammey sage and Burro Creek contain manganese salts too.

oooh I want it! brecciated stuff is my favorite. Is this stuff you have hounded yourself? beautiful and waaaay cool! Yes iv collected this had to fight a few spiders off to get a few from rock garden for pics ha ha . Do you do any cabbing or wrapping ? My rockhounding consists of buying rock online or shows and going through boxes I've got over the years. The rock is stored outside under an area under the roof. Two years ago I decided to go through the boxes to see what I had. I found a lot of stuff I didn't know I had including black widow spiders. Most of my smaller slabs are in cigar boxes, but I have to be careful looking for the larger stuff.

I have found similar stone here in north central Wyoming and I was told it was orthoclase (sp) at a rock meet in Cody. I had it laying around here for a few years but when I moved I did not take it. I just went through all my photos and can not find a photo either. Sorry Jim Edited to say that I face polished it and got a stellar shine.

Burro creek fades in sunlight. Just as amethyst does. My gut says purple in burricreek is same as amethyst quartz.
