Went to a local lake on a whim today to see what kind of rocks were there. Right when we got there, I saw Dallasite, our Vancouver Island jasper. Here was the first piece I saw. This is the first I've seen of Dallasite not on an ocean beach, but I knew it could be found on the island in general. My writing is bad right now. Big one my girlfriend found, lots of great specimen pieces here. I'm going to check every lake on this island now. Lots of pieces need to be broken to separate the good Dallasite bits from the brown/black crappy part. Thanks for looking. bcrockhound.com/2014/07/26/stumbling-on-dallasite/

We've found small pieces of Dallasite on the beaches around Victoria but never thought of visiting some lakes. Do you find flowerstone near Victoria?

You know, I've never even rock hounded down there! I do know of a person who finds flowerstone down there though, and I think it's generally all over the island, or at least on the east coast, in sparse amounts. Dallasite is just about everywhere, including inland.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier - thanks for the report and pictures. Awesome stuff that dallasite. I was thinking of posting a picture of a certain dallasite cabochon I recently finished but only with your permission. Wouldn't want it to cause a rockhounding stampede in BC heehee.

I'm just glad you like it. Please, post away. I want to see. Rockhounding stampede - ha! I do know one person who started selling dallasite after coming across my posts. I hope there are more. This stuff is everywhere on the island. The only people I see out here appreciating that fact are kids whose parents don't care what rocks they're picking up on the beach. I think everyone should get into rockhounding, and I think Vancouver Island should show off its natural beauty more. It really boggles my mind how little dallasite I've seen used locally, which is why I wanted to send some to you and find out if there's something wrong with the rock for lapidary. Even my local island rock and gem club has about three tumbled dallasite stones as their entire collection, literally. I've seen local gem stores sell rough flowerstone by the pound but not dallasite.

I'm just glad you like it. Please, post away. I want to see. You can't say I didn't warn you! haha. Seriously though I really like it and my wife likes it too. Every time she passes by where I've got this cab on display she expresses just how much haha. She's not really impressed with the size however - size matters when making what is supposed to be an impressive shield I guess. I screwed up on the sharp tip and had to reset the angle and it made the whole thing shorter. The material itself works up real easy without much undercutting and takes what I would call a nice medium-high shine.

This is a piece of the flower-stone. Except for the obvious difference in pattern I would swear they are made from the same material. VERY similar working in every way. The wife is also quite impressed with the looks of this piece as well.

I'll take any attention I can get Tommy.
i did look up Dallasite in images. Non were near as good as your cab. But then again, I don't understand why all the stones you post are incredible.
sure enough, flowerstone looks just like it is made of same material.

That looks amazing and is officially the first cab of Dallasite I have ever seen. I am extremely impressed and having a little spiritual moment here. I really connected with dallasite over the last several months and it's very special to see what you've done with it now. I can't express that enough. Thank you! I love the flowerstone too! It's the same rock as from my avatar, all dressed up. I'm surprised you found it so similar to dallasite, but all the rocks here kind of mesh into each other. This will have me buzzing all week. Thank you again and great work.
