My apologies if this has been discussed before... I am considering buying this seemingly beautiful and informative book. It is quite expensive, though. Can anyone give me a response as to whether it is worth the cost? I think I have talked myself into it, yet, I remain on the fence.

I got several from Ron when they were $40. Going rate now days is $140-$150. The book is very nice and worth it if you have the money. I don't think I would buy at that price. I might pay upto $70 for used.

Thanks! Yes, the best price I can find is 140 new. The used books that I have seen were actually more.

I got one when they first came out. Mine's not a hardback which I do not like. Kind of an interesting read with lots of pictures. An OK book but I like the three volume Zenz book series much better. I would not buy it at the higher price for sure.....Mel

The only ones I've seen left are signed, too. Well, I got a good deal and had to get it. I can't wait to see it. I guess the Zenz books are next. (eventually)

I was researching this book on Amazon a few weeks ago and they listed a hardcover one. Like you I'm sure softcover is all that he had. Maybe his heirs are having it republished in hardcover? If so there are some grammatical and factual errors that should be addressed. Bob

Question: what are you hoping to gain from the books?.. I have several and really didn't see the point.. Unless the books have instructional images and details as to how to etc..

For one thing, I like eye candy and then there is the ID angle, plus I like to look at actual books (when possible). Not many books that I now if have too many jaspers. What books do you have? Do you want to sell?

Hah.. sorry I wish it was that easy to simply sell the books.. thou I would gladly do so.. I need these books for erm.. ritual proposes.. Yes.. there are other books that contain information about several varieties of rocks and minerals which are also used in many spiritual practices. Several Native American books, a few wiccan or pagan books and even a few new age books all having one thing in common.. they all use the stone within their worship.. The list of mine would be way to far to post you'd prob be better off if you actually went to the book store and headed for the Native American books as well as the Spiritual or New age books.. In my case, It's not wise to exchange books like this.. they have become part of the family and not that I ever use them that much anymore.. the only thing they offered me was the "eye candy" as you called it and purely as a reference book dealing with what something is. If you're searching for specifically agate books.. I can't help you there.. cause all of my books have some sort of agate reference.I just didn't want to get to involved in speaking about religions or my spiritual activities when I'm also a rock tumbler and hobbyist.

You asked, I answered. I hope I didn't offend you. It seems maybe I did.
I don't like to part with books. I have a good reference library for many things and wouldn't part with any. But, for fiction- I pass it along after it is read.
I don't think you need to shy away from the spiritual aspects of rocks and minerals. Maybe you can start a thread about it and see who is interested. I can think of a few ppl who might be. I don't think being a rock hound and being spiritual with rocks are mutually exclusive. Personally, I don' know a lot about it. But, I appreciate that lots of ppl are very into it. It would help me in my business to know more. I know I have had a few clients who were interested in the metaphysical aspect of my jewelry. They had to enlighten me because I am pretty ignorant. I had a good friend who was Native American and went to some Pow Wows. I found the dancing and traditions very moving, but I didn't learn much about rocks. That was before I was really into doing more than just buying a few cabochons, though. I was a glassblower then. He moved back out West.

Of course not, no offense taken.. However, I just realized that I do have older Rock & Gem magazines dating from 2005 - 2008 I'm attempting to sell if you need a detailed list of these I'm very willing to take a few notes for you and others.

I love books. the e books and the internet are great tools but nothing beats the feel of a book in the hands. And that sounds like a really good book!

I don't even care if they are paperback or hardcover. I am one to dogear my books, too. Drives DH crazy. If you can get a decent price for this book, I think you will really enjoy it. I ended up finding one for 140. I've seen them for over 200!!!

Mel Sabre52 and his partner have tons of wonderful info!
