I wasn't too sure where to post this but I wanted to share the display stand Im making. I wanted something to creatively display my rocks and to show off the tiny crystal pockets that cant be see without holding and finding a glimmer.
it is made from a microwave motor, red cedar pillars and oak veneer for the plates. Its nowhere to complete and still needs some prettying up.
made from scraps in my shop aka the garage.
here it is doing what it's supposed to do... kinda blurry but I will take better video when it's finished

Since I'm still working out the kinks, I might have to get some gas for my acetylene torch and rough it up a bit. I agree with the rustic beat up look, it will definitely add to the looks. Im still trying to figure out a way to spin it without getting off balance. I already have an idea in my head that I think will work after studying the base during operation. It needs a platform to spin on with bearings as rollers will spin on top of another primary fixed base that sits above the motor(if that makes any sense from how I explained it) to clear the power cord. Its a lot of trial an error.

the motor came from a microwave my neighbor put at the curb for the trash, I immediately cannibalized it. Its the perfect speed and torque for this project.
I showed my wife this topic...She says, take ours so I can buy a new smaller one...LOL I took her up on it..Thumbs up Was thinking of using Diamond willow for the wood,if I try that... Now if I can just get her electric roaster pan...(for treating rocks)...

Haha nice, repurposing is a win-win for everyone! Goodluck getting that roaster.
I've never heard of diamond willow, I would really like to check it out.. sounds fancy.
