OK, had to say it. Awhile back we were joking about how great it would be to fill up a bathtub with tumbled stones and just jump in. Well, I just came back from Jasper Beach in Machias, ME, and that's essentially what it is, a great big bathtub full of tumbled stones. I've never seen (or heard) anything like it! Of course, I took some away, but only about 1/4 of a canvas shopping bag, rocks are heavy! I'm posting a video with sound that I took, hope it comes out OK.
yes, yes, me me me... I wanna go first! LOL. The sound of the lake on the rocks is one of my favorite things about prowling the beaches near me.( Lake Huron) The sand ones aren't nearly as cool as the rocky ones. It always makes me sad to have to leave that sound... The best picking is when the lake is quiet, but that is almost never, so I get two good things, either a nice day picking farther out in the water when it is quiet, or that glorious sound while I pick along the shore when there are waves. Any day at the beach beats a day anywhere else. Looks like a rock picker's heaven there. Hope you post more pictures of your finds!
It was soooo hard to leave, but it's a 3 hour drive back home, and thunderstorms were moving in, so I only got a little flavor of the place. Been busy all evening sorting through my latest vibe results, but sorting through the beach rocks is next on my list. There are some with the most interesting line green deposits that I hope aren't going to be too soft for 60/90 in the rotary.

Looks like a great place. Rocky beaches used to make me sad because they'd be uncomfortable to walk on barefoot, but now a picture like that is drool-worthy. Screw sand! Haha.
I love grey clouds and rainy days. Makes me feel safe. I like the look of that little place. I always feel *this* close from packing a bag and walking off to live in a forest like that myself.
Blog about rockhounding, tumbling and learning the hobby. Heavy on the pictures, new posts from where I'm going and what I'm tumbling regularly www.bcrockhound.com
It's hard to see, but the ground drops off precipitously to the water. A couple of times a wave got me because I couldn't run up the hill fast enough on the rolling stones! As you can see, someone was actually laying down on the stones. They were pretty comfy to sit on while I picked through them, since they were round and the pile was so deep, like a bean bag chair!
