Suwannee in morning by myself, with John on Thursday. Suwannee a mix of many tributaries including this one. Still on learning curve for this area. Access terrible.

Great trip report James! That carnelian colored coral is very nice. Dang though, you look tough enough to chew up railroad rails and spit out horseshoe nails in that selfie *L*.....Mel

Good trip, good finds, hard to beat. Carol says she would prefer staying at motel, she doesn't like all the critters you have there.

wait, 200 ft down... you mean below the surface? no, you have to mean downstream. that coral looks dense! Pretty color, too! that odd sand hill is interesting. you have taught me that paying attention to geology has payoffs, I need to look more closely at the landscape in some of the places I am wandering... how do you get the green stains from algae out of the coral surface?

Dang though, you look tough enough to chew up railroad rails and spit out horseshoe nails in that selfie *L*.....Mel Turned into a big chicken when a little water snake got caught in the strong current and swam up between my arm from behind in waist deep water. He was just looking for a perch. He was skinny and had a very pronounced head and square jaw. Completely had a spaz attack. 10 minutes later ID told me it was a common water snake as it's bands stuck in my mind. Narrow deep and fast creeks like that make me nervous due to it being a corridor/conduit for the reptiles. Several large shy slider turtles passed by, telling me they had little choice.

Yes, downstream. That coral is at 90-100 feet above sea level. Using topo maps will put you on it. Fast creeks and rivers that cut through that elevation have coral lined bottoms in a large area. I think oxalic acid is what I have to soak it snowmom. It is mild and a mixable powder.

the green skin on the coral looks good, especially with the color that's inside. Nice find. Nice jungle pics.

Day 3. Ken, Tammy, John, Keith, Mark, Ann and Tina coming to Withlacoochee area today. Suppose to have Mexican food around 5-6 PM tonight. They are too late, jamesp stole all the coral and it is sitting in a rental storage unit. Up early, switched from kayak mode to swamp boat mode. Buddy John 30 minutes out from DeLand Fl. Change of plan, Suwannee water level too high, headed to Withlacoochee. He must ride in the USS Coral River. Life insurance in place for John, his wife and I to split. Hotel room full of kayaks, ha. Taking John to unchartered territory. Taking him to psuedomorph.

Fully packed-check, full tank at the cheapest prices of the summer- check. Now just 8 hours at work and then on to the Withlacoochee. This will be one LONG day at work.

Had 5 inches of rain today Ann just kidding. I see Chattanooga in the background. Hope your not too tired. Was 99F and water was clear as air. As long as we do not get a rain it will stay clear. Snorkling deeper water yielded lots of coral. Nice to have low water during hot season. Drive careful.

Local magazine says it weighs 87 pounds. Ha. no way. Over 6 feet and 87 pounds. Does a 6 foot snake even weigh 20 pounds ??
