disappointed, brought my camera, but when I got there, there were only one or two entries in most categories. there were several vendors there, lots of really neat and well crafted rock items and the dealers all had more puddings stone than what was on display. maybe next year it will be better or maybe more people brought rocks to display as the festival went on. I was there about an hour after the thing was set up and open for visitors. maybe next year i'll have a pudding stone or 2 to show off... I did stop at a beach on my way home and found 3 very (very) small ones and one so large it could not have been moved even with a wheelbarrow, and about 2 miles down the beach plus a mile of trail to negotiate. oh well, sooner or later i'll find just the right one.

I wish I would have seen this sooner. I was off picking rocks when you originally posted. I just happened to be passing through Cheyboygan to pick my mom up in the U.P. last year when they had their first festival. There were about six vendors set up and most were not impressive. The only really good vendor was from Drummond Island and had some really nice stuff. One guy had very ordinary looking rocks that he had put polyurethane or something on.

Interesting that you found the event lacking. I just attended a local fair yesterday to meet the rock and gem club people in my area. To my surprise they were selling almost nothing from Vancouver Island and only wholesale tumbles and generic junk from the internet. They had like three tumbled Dallasite stones and they were horribly tumbled. They hot-glued tumbled stones together and you could still see the glue strings. I was shocked at how they seemed to have almost nothing local and on top of that do a pretty bad job polishing. I've been hounding and tumbling here for a few months and have a far more impressive/extensive selection than my local rock and gem club. That's just bizarre to me.

I was too busy collecting pudding stones that weekend to attend the festival, lol There was a older gent from drummond island that should have been there showing off his stuff. I can remember buying a pudding stone napkin holder from him about 25 years ago and he is still making stuff today. He loves to talk about rocks. The perfect time to hunt pudding stone is while everyone else is at the pudding stone festival forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/67045/worth-all-effortI would have been a vendor for the event this year and last year but it starts on Friday and I cant take time off work for it. Chuck, yes he was there, but I said to myself "this is not the Drummond Island Rocks" that I know. His sign did say Drummond Island Rocks... he had some nice things, very social and it was obvious that he loved working the show and the interactions with the people.
