Hi All, i just got a nice 10" Frantom saw. Pretty happy about it too.. It's just the saw, vise/fence, splashguard, pulley. No base or motor. I have a motor for it already and will be getting it all up and running asap but i wanted to ask the diy'ers to show me some simple diy adjustable motor mount ideas. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have a few things to put together too and would also like to see some DIY pics.

Chuck is obviously a better craftsman than I am, but here's the same idea on my slab saw. I had to add a bit of weight to the motor to increase belt tension to match that needed for the saw. Cheers. Tom

My personal "variation on theme", the grommets help with vibration, have a pair of "jam nuts" below to allow for a positive stop and the ability to custom tension the belt independent of weight and reduces motor "jumping" particularly on startup. Can't say I have a history of doing such things, might be some unknown drawbacks that I am just not experienced enough to be aware of. Cheers

Most of the trim saws I set up I just mount the motor on the base board behind the saw. I put the belt on and pull motor back straight. Mark and drill the motor mounts in center of slots. Mounting under the saw the hinged plate and threaded rod works well. I would use a metal plate to bolt to motor mount and hinge it from the saw stand. Threaded rod to adjust tension. Motor weight works but something about the motor jumping and bouncing at start up turns me off. Less likely to slip when hand feeding a little too aggressively too.

If you buy a sliding base be sure to match your motor frame. Motor tag will say something like "FR 48Y" or "FR 56". I think you are over engineering it myself. Use a good quality belt and it should not stretch much at all over time. I use carriage bolts from the bottom of base board for both saw and motor. That avoids bolt heads sticking out. Also makes it easy to remove saw tank for cleaning. My first saw was a 10" Frantom. I mounted it directly to a 2X work bench top without a base board. Worked fine but made it too hard to move saw to other locations.

You're probably right about the over engineering but putting this saw together is part "i need a new saw" and part "i want to work on a project". It's the "i want to work on a project" side that over engineers.

Hey Chuck (Drummond Island Rocks) have you made a thread on your tumbler build? If so, could you please post a link to it here. Looks like a really nice job!
Thank you.
