Just South of the Missouri/Arkansas line in the S.W part of the State. Couldn't get a pic as were past them too quickly and didn't want to turn around on a busy road. They looked like some type of large Lotus complete with Pink/Fuchsia blooms. They were growing in large black grow pots and did not appear to be in standing water. The leaves were round like water lillies and probably a foot across and were about 4 feet tall I always thought such plants had leaves that rested on the surface of the water and never seen any growing upright in pots. There were three or four groupings of similar plants of probably 20 pots or so in each. It appeared it might be some sort of nursery or landscaping place, but saw no sign stating such. I wouldn't mind having a few of those out back along the creek:-)

Kinda, but not exactly. The ones I saw were more flat and plate shaped. The flower looks about the same color, but couldn't see how they were shaped. My creek goes dry in the summertime, but due to the limestone ledges underneath the gravel, the water level is always there. Would a Lilly of some type grow there? Would they spread in such an environment, or stay in a group?
The creek goes on a tear in the Spring when we get heavy rains. Would they stay rooted pretty well, or be washed downstream?

Just be careful that you aren't spreading an invasive exotic.

When mitigating creeks willow saplings are rammed in holes dippled by man/machine in spring in this area. Rooting compounds often made out of willow, so they are fond of taking. Try some native rushes/sedges first, and observe any species that has colonized. If no volunteer water plants are growing in the creek chances are not to good for you to grow anything.

Thanks. there is some kind of tall grass like stuff that grows in the stream bed. It looks a lot like cattails, but without the puffy seed head. The water stays just below the surface of the gravel most of the year, but in heavy spring rains it can roll pretty good for a few days Those water lillies/Lotus look so darned pretty it just made me want some of them:-)

Lilies can be done in container too- old bath tub, tank cut in half, one of your many smokers

all is forgiven. realizing of course I was griping purely in jest i think you mentioned some one putting a limit on the smoker collection. You are correct ! I have since lowered my collection by 2 smokers. Two neighbors are happy and the wife will have to find something else to gripe about
