I'm sure this has been asked before but can you use hydraulic oil instead or are the airborn fumes too volitale. mineral oil is about 19 bucks a gallon at tractor supply and around 40 bucks for 5 gal. of hydraulic oil. I don't like using water. thanks.

Mineral oil is a little cheaper if you buy it in pint bottles at Walmart. I think it works out to be about $16 a gallon. Unfortunately, my local Walmart only stocks 6 bottles at a time. I have no idea about hydraulic oil.

Horse laxative. If your local tractor supply is getting $19.00 a gallon for mineral oil, they're trying to rip off their customers. Check the label on tractor hydraulic oil. Most now a days is refined mineral oil. Get the lightest grade they have.

$13 at most veterinary supply houses, and there's one in California that sells it for $14 per gallon with FREE shipping... if you buy $50 worth. that's only 4 gallons ($56). I buy 12 gallons at a time, but then I have 3 saws that use MO. here's the URL: www.scbt.com/datasheet-359654.html

Our Tractor Supply sells horse laxative mineral oil for $19 a gallon too. I couldn't believe the difference in price of mineral oil in pint sizes. Walmart was about $2, Kmart about $4 and I think Walgreens was $5 or $6.

Best price I've been able to find is $47.25 plus shipping for 5 gallons ($9.45/gal). That's here: www.soaperschoice.com (Aka Columbus Foods) You'd want the 70 viscosity. 90 is a little too thick. 350 is probably like molasses. You might even be able to get drums from them as well.

Any electrical repair shop that repairs electrical transformers will carry the oil...its used to cool down those huge transformers you see on the power lines.. They recycle it and some do sell it... I use it all the time...Just have to furnish your own lidded bucket..
