Hi,
I recently watched a very good video on YouTube about cutting and polishing Opal...
.
In it PVA Wood Glue is used to dop the stone. However, no mention is made as to how the stone is safely removed from the dop stick.
Can anyone help?
Regards,
Derek

most wood glues are soaked in water to release the stone

Hi Roy,
I tried both hot and cold water, both worked.
Leaving the dop stick in the cold water for 5 minutes resulting in the stone being easily removed with a knife.
However, after 5 minutes in boiling hot water the stone virtually fell off the dop stick.
Many thanks,
Derek

It works for other stones, don't know about opals. Put it in the freezer for a few minutes.
If you use a metal dopstick such as a flat headed nail/brad/screw, you can put it on a fire brick and heat up the dop stick. Slides right off in about one minute.
