Did some horsetrading with some "Graveyard Point " agate....(In my opinion,it's a boring agate) for some thundereggs and one geode.. Can't wait to get them home..The person doesn't know where they came from,so the cutting will be fun..Thumbs up

I agree with you on the Graveyard. Boring stuff. I've given away more slabs than I've ever cabbed.
Looks like some nice eggs. Little bacon & hashbrowns and you're all set. Wanna see pics after you cut them.

Be sure to post those T-eggs when you cut them Michael. It'll be fun to try to ID them. Great slabs everyone.
Graveyard Point produces all kinds of agate from very high quality to junk. The last time I collected there with a geologist friend he brought what he calls his "bigger hammer," a gas engine-powered jackhammer. We dug out several very large chunks of agate from a vein that reached as much as 18-inches wide. Several of them weighed nearly 100 pounds and all of it was leaverite: drab stuff, definitely boring. But it's a very large area that's criss-crossed with many agate deposits, most not visible from the surface.
Many of the best deposits are under claim and produce named agates. But I'm sure there's a lot more high quality material undiscovered below ground. I haven't been there in a long time and don't know about access these days. There seems to be greater interest in the area than when I dug there and it's likely more good spots are under claim. But I think a lot more quality agate will be produced in future years.

While I'll agree that the Regency Rose is nice stuff, I'd much rather have a quality piece of the Woodward Ranch red plume to work with. I love plume agates, but only certain types. The usual white plumes found in your average or even old stock graveyard I find boring.
Back in my early days of lapidary work, (50's & 60's), I cut probably 50 lbs of old stock graveyard. Of all of that I cut maybe a dozen cabs, and traded or gave away the rest of the slabs. In the basement I have 1 small slab left that I'll dig out and cab one of these days. It's what I would consider to be a very rare piece. It has rootbeer colored plumes, and under the right light one of the plumes shows the colors and flash of fire agate. I've tried to get pics of that slab, showing that small area of flash with no luck. Maybe after cabbing it will show up in a pic.

The stuff I was cutting was all collected in the 40's to 50's. Not hardly the stuff they're finding now a days. While it was good solid material, even the old stuff had mostly boring colors.
