My tumbler has been going for awhile and I finally had enough material to go for a run in my UV-10. The stuff I've been picking up is challenging material, a lot of globular vugs in it that open up as it grinds down. I'm not picky about it really I just want to take the rind off and look inside it more than anything. Here's the whole lot: A close-up of one where the vug had not broken though: moss-like inclusions: I think this is my favorite one of this batch: some of the problem rocks with vugs: And this one I pulled before the burnish and buffed with a lint free towel real good to compare with the burnished rocks, not too much difference:

Beautiful! I love the soft colours. Annoying about the vugs but look worth it to tumble to me.

love those colors, the grey/brown/subtle pinks and coral colors... and the little black and white accents. all complimentary... interesting stuff... I like the moss/dendirites, and like you, I am mostly interested ins seeing what's inside once removing the exterior crust built up from years of weathering. looks like those have polished up nice in all the places without the added 'character" of the vugs and dings etc. fun to see these, thanks for posting!

Always rewarding to do self collected material. Your fave is mine too and the mossy stuff is way cool.
Curios ... with all the vugs how did you handle cleaning between stages?

Looks like a solar system in your favorite rock. I liked the mossy close up as well.

Thanks for the comments! the "recipe" this round in the UV-10 - I did a 2 day 200 grit, then recharged and did 2 more days with the 200, then rinsed and scrubbed out the vugs as best as I could and did a 1/2 day burnish of liquid laundry detergent(an experiment - it seemed to work) and rinsed again before 1 day of 500 grit, then a borax burnish of 1/2 day, then rinsed and 3 days of AO polish and 1/2 day of a borax burnish. The vibrating tumbler really knocks that stuff out pretty well. What I did notice were the really small ones have a tendency I think to scrape off the plastic on the tumbler and get it stuck in there.

timlocoNice job on your tumble. A good way to clean out pits/vugs is to use a good handheld spray bottle. They generate enough pressure to clean things out pretty good. Just don't let the tumbler slurry dry in the pits/vugs prior to spraying them out. Nice tumble! Brent

I love the colors and agree about wanting to see what's inside. Thanks for the pics!

Is that material from up in the Grasslands? Kind of looks familiar (used to live in Morgan County). Starguy's tip on the spray bottle works good. Since my tumblers are in the shop with no running water I also use a garden sprayer and keep pumping it up, all the while building in my mind a portable tank/pump setup. May actually get that built this winter.
