I have seen a few discussions on this forum, and questions as to whether or not cement mixers will work for rotary tumbling? About 6 months ago, we decided that we would upgrade our tumbling equipment at our factory in Madagascar. Talking with some of the leaders in the Brazilian stone industry, we were put in contact with a few tumbling factories that are close to bankruptcy and l was told they are surviving on "rice and beans". They were using what appeared to be 400 LB cement mixers to compliment traditional ball-mill rotaries. I have photos of these working, but this forum doesn't allow me to attach images. So, if anyone is interested in seeing them, just let me know. From what I was told, the mixers are more industrial, and easier to use. The photos show a dry polish process, but i was assured they have no problem with water and grit, and sealing isn't difficult. The production of the factory was 36,000 kg per month.

This forum has a great photo program a bit tricky at first to learn. If noise isnt an issue a mixer will work great on large, and doing them dry will echo the noise created..I ran mine wet start to finish, never did the last polish so now i have alot of nice shaped dull looking rocks..but when it rains on them stand back..lol.you use grit in large amount for sure..i saw some ole core drills they use in Brazil, made from well caseing no diamond just used grit, water and man power.

Do you still have these photos? I'm in Brazil and I would like to know the process.

I had a dream, a night mare, and a vision dreamed I was driving a cement truck That was tumbling stones Across the country giving shows The cement truck even a had a name: Rolling Tumbling Revue so I’d pull up to a town and let the chute down all these pretty polished stones came rolling out/ The people ooohhhed & awwwed I was a big success. at this one town all the people were gathered round I released the chute and this big boulder Started to emerge! I called on all my Herculean strength to hold that Rock back! But it was going to roll! All the people started scattering and the boulder rolled right down the street chaos & disorder back there over my Atlas Shoulder then a huge chasm opened up & that Rolling Stone rolled right into the abyss then I woke up mostly
