Made it out on labor day. Hubby took me down to a couple job sites he had been bringing stuff home from. (They are all along a several mile long span of transmission lines) Beautiful part of the state, didn't take many pics of the area, it was due to rain so snapped 1 pic and got right to hounding. Rain held out for a couple hours. More than happy with our haul and enjoyed some time for the two of us without the kids. The site: The haul, cleaned and sorted Close ups: Hematite with calcite, some have copper Calcite Garnets in schist Best one: Brought home alot of copper ore, some with hematite, some solid basalt, some vesicular basalt and some of the vesicles are amygdules filled with copper, and zeolite (there could be some that are copper related minerals such as malachite or chrysocolla and a few may contain prehnite others could contain calcite... I'm not about to test them all) This one I'm not sure what that bright green is but doesn't fit any of the minerals I've mentioned No clue what these are Close up: Blue chalcedony and a gray one. The large one looks white but it's just faint blue, it's also botryoidal Close ups of the largest rocks and their calcite formations This one has pyrite below the cluster formation This one has some prehnite where it's stained orange And the creme da la creme, the whole reason I wanted to go here.....the prehnite This is prehnite with a secondary unknown mineral Close up of the largest Thanks for taking a look

Way cool! I love the prenite, very nice looking stuff. Sounds like you got some quality time AND some treasures.

Don't know how your vehicle made it home loaded with all those awesome finds, transcendental! Love the vug shot and I hope you'll take some close up shots of some of the others when you get a chance. Garnets!!

Way to have your rock hounding costs covered as a business expense if hubby gets to claim his mileage for the "inspection".
Your amygdaloidal basalt looks remarkably similar to what I find on the Bay of Fundy. Chances are, the green mineral that encrusts the zeolite filled vugs is Celadonite. It is often confused with malachite, pseudo-malachite, or chrysocolla but is commonly found as a rind on zeolite filled a vugs, or as a crust that seeped into fractures.
The "No clue what these are" also appear to be amygdaloidal basalt. The basalt composition varied a little, or it became weathered. Chances are, the lighter brown basalt is much softer than the darker material.
Darryl.

Gingerkid, trucks heavy duty lol .... no really we didn't bring back as much as I would have given more time. That haul didn't even take up 1/8 of the truck bed and all the small prehnite went straight in my purse so it wouldn't get crushed rolling around the bed. I'm going to try polishing some of the amygdules, close ups will follow if that effort is successful or not. Would be great if they are cab-able Fromfundy, Haha this trip is off the books as far as the power company is concerned. Possible some of the amygdules contain caladonite, that mineral is found in ct... for the most part I think it's just copper filling the voids, any amygdules that I noticed that have zeolite are solid white with no other color in the same void but there is quite a bit of variety amongst all the rocks I picked up, so I wouldn't rule it out without testing first. You are correct in that the unknowns are basalt that contain iron instead of copper, wasn't sure what the yellow spots and the white crystals were on those.

wowser! what a productive day... you should be in base rocks for your trees for quite a while (and crystal leaves!) Really neat stuff, and I hope you will continue to post the things you make of it!

Glad to see I hot rth approval lol. A bunch of this is going to another member as thanks for the packages I was sent, others are for tree bases and jewelry. Might be a bit before I start working it, I got into painting the interior of my home which has turned into a bigger project than was anticipated. Hopefully I'll be done by the end of the weekend then can move onto more fun activities. Fingers crossed on that one!

That was quite a haul! Looks like you grabbed enough to keep you busy for a while. Its like Christmas morning, before you know it you have 200 lbs of rocks in your pockets. ant wait to see what you do with them.

maybe this as been asked it that black & white banded some type of onyx? Not sure which one your referring to but I didn't pick up any onyx. My guess is your asking about the larger specimens I grabbed which are basalt rich in copper with calcite. Count down my picks and comment a number I'll be able to give you more details

I was referring to these which look like black & white banded although the pic could be deceptive and those red spots are interesting thanks Ed

Five photos up from bottom looks like barite. Barite is very heavy. Noticably heavy. And fluoresces. Could be calcite though. Sure is a mineral rich batch. Nice stuff.

Quite possibly, barite is often associated with calcite formations and is found in my state. It is also similar to calcite so upon quick glance with the naked eye and with simple testing could appear to be calcite
