So my mom helped take care of an elderly man from my neighborhood yeeeears ago. Apparently he used to make some jewelry and as he was getting sicker gave my mom a handful of random stuff, which she completely forgot about until we were talking last week! She sent me all of them and I'm thrilled! All are small and pre polished, I think he bought them polished, I don't think he cabbed them himself. Fire Agate! So excited for this! 009 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Some bloodstone 012 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Bunch of tiger eye 016 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Not sure what these are...random stuff. 014 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Some lapis, turquoise (although it has something black glued to it, some I'm not sure...), possible chyrsocolla? 017 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Some black material. 015 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Jade/jadite? 019 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr This is exciting...might be a black star sapphire. Dunno if it was worth anything. I'm going to take it to my local rock club and see what they say, then maybe go get it apprasied at a jeweler. 022 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr

nice freebies for sure. the four banded gray/silver ones in center of your unknowns are most likely botswana agates.

Copper colored sparkly one is goldstone, a synthetic glass product made by Italian monks. Really nice cabs, the far agate especially....Mel

..anyone know what the shiny copper colored one is? It's called goldstone. It's a man-made industrial by-product if I remember correctly. Nice cabs, congrats!

I'm pretty sure you have a black star sapphire judging from the way the light hits the crown. Don't get your hopes up too high -- they're not terribly valuable but they make really attractive jewelry stones if the star is well centered and there are no cracks or other blemishes. I can't judge the size of your stone but as an example 6 x 8 mm. stones sell in the $30 to $50 range. You really made out well!

I forgot to move the coin around as reference lol. Most are nickle or dime sized. The sapphire is maybe pea sized?

Whoo hoo! Free is always good, especially when it comes to cabs. Nice ones, too.
