While out hounding with the wife i found A vein of some amazing onyx in the middle of nowhere. location is close to home, Palmdale, CA. Realy want everyone to take a peek and give some ideas on what i may have here. Have made two trips out there and brought back around 250 lbs. Very hard to dig out, do to the fact that the seam is sandwiched in between about 8 feet of rock and the desert floor. What we did recover took some very hard work but i do believe it was well worth the labor. Here are some pics of our find, we call it Winters Heart Onyx s27.photobucket.com/user/therockviking779/slideshow/

Thx dirtcleaner! Yeah lots of great spots near me, in Palmdale Vugs. I think the spot your referring to is of Barrel Springs road. The wife and I call it Agate Valley, it was actually our first rockhunding experience about 6 years ago lol ! What a can of worms that place opened up! Hey Gunner not sure if i want to sell any, Especially the big's, but am always looking for some hounding partners. Especially more experienced cat's such as your self. alot of the time the wife and i have conflicting work schedules, and am sometimes hesitant to head out to some of the more remote locals solo. Maybe one day we can get together and hunt some stone, I could pick your brain, and bring you some chunks for free!
OH YEAH!!! THX TO ALL FOR THE HELP WITH POSTING PICS!!!!! YOUR AWESOME !!!!

I would to love to see some big slabs off it too! Unfortunately dont have much for lapidary equipment yet. Couple months savings away from my genie though, getting excited.

Indeed vugs! Been to alot of the areas within a hundred miles of palmdale. From Afton Canyon, Wright wood, even the infamous Horse Canyon 3 times now, reserched the crap out of that one dident want to break any laws. Huge area, and gorgeous! was able to hike some hills, and streams near ther and came away with some nice plume, and a few pieces of the classic horse canyon. The agate valley location is flooded with nodules, some clear, some banded with little crystal vugs inside, and a ton of very bubbly chalsadeony. In black's, red's, and even green .will post some pics of what ibe grabed from there as well!! Got alot

To post your pics just go to your Photobucket site and open a single photo. copy the "direct" link. Go to your post and find the little icon that looks like a photo. Click on it and paste your link there. Voila. Would like to run one of those chunks through my 12" saw. Could cut it up for you and I would keep 1/3 of the slabs. Think about it.

I have seen something similar, it's called Silver Lace onyx and is found in mule canyon near Calico Ghost town.

Great find. Looks a lot like the silver onyx from east of Calico Ghost Town. I'll bet if you had it checked, you'd find that the dark patterns in it are silver oxide.
