Spiritstone, I think your specimen qualifies as pudding stone, but note that its distinct from the other depicted in being composed of rough pebbles bound in the matrix instead of stream smoothed pebbles depicted in the Drummond Island stuff. If its rough (broken) fragments glued together its called breccia. I'm sure there's a counterpart term for the alluvial rounded stuff, but I usually just call it conglomerate. Pudding stone is for us lay folks. Breccia and conglomerats are real geological terms. I hope this does not confuse. Tom

Conglomerate is the one I knew it as, pudding stone was the new term to me.

Interesting note shotgunner . but I would think puddingstone is a tiny bit different of a mixture .. but each puddingstone is different .. I think each granite is slightly different as well as granite can be mixed with other minerals . .. But I picked up on that one awhile ago as well . They are very similar .. rocks are always playing games with us !!! btw that purple looking one looks like purple puddingstone from the nj area ..

I've always classified true puddingstone as a quartz conglomerate with included jasper pebbles. The type we get here in Texas has included agate or jasper pebbles but the matrix sealing the mass is usually red , white or yellow agate......Mel

Sorry I will add that granite IS a mix of minerals. Hence the terrific variation you describe.
